Spring Lutzen, BS, CHSE, RRT-NPS

Simulation Manager

Spring Lutzen is the manager of Spectrum Health Lakeland Simulation Training Center. She is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. She oversees all aspects of SHLSTC, including scheduling of educational activities. She is critical to the plan, design, implementation and evaluation of all educational programs and activities through SHLSTC. She completed her Bachelors at Grand Canyon University and has 15 years of clinical experience as a respiratory therapist with advanced training in neonatal and pediatric care.

Kristen Whitworth, DO 

Medical Simulation Director

Dr. Kristen Whitworth is the Medical Simulation Director at Lakeland Simulation Training Center at Spectrum Lakeland Health. She is an Emergency Medicine physician who completed a longitudinal track in medical education during her residency training with a focus in medical simulation. She has also completed the Healthcare Simulation Essentials: Design and Debriefing course through the Center for Medical Simulation. Dr. Whitworth works closely with the Simulation Manager to ensure the program operations are aligning with the program’s mission, goals and objectives. She liaisons directly with Graduate Medical Education administration to ensure that each residency program’s educational needs are being met, as well as ensures quality and up to date best practice of the programs.

Darcy Fox, BSN, CHSE

Simulation Educator

Darcy Fox is the Simulation Educator at Spectrum Health Lakeland Simulation Training Center. She is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. She is also responsible for the coordination and delivery of the center's educational activities including immersive clinical simulations, standardized patient encounters, and in situ simulations. Additionally, she is a key instructor for the organization's nursing orientation program delivered through SHLSTC.  Darcy received her Bachelor of Nursing at Western Michigan University and has many years of nursing experience with a background focused in oncology and post-surgical care.  Since transitioning into medical simulation, she has received ongoing education in moulage and simulation basics through Drexel University. 

Madelyn Bacchiocchi, BS, MS

Simulation Specialist

Madelyn Bacchiocchi is the Simulation Specialist for Spectrum Health Lakeland Simulation Training Center. She is responsible for the oversite of all educational technologies in the center and is a key participant in the simulations; controlling the manikins, their vital signs, and reactions. She received her Master of Science in Human Anatomy from the University of Edinburgh and has received a Certificate in Medical and Healthcare Simulation through Drexel University.
