Midwifery Services

PregnantWoman_with_MidwifeThe Certified Nurse-Midwifes (CNM) at BellaNova Women’s Health offer personalized care that puts the woman in charge.

At BellaNova Women’s Health, our CNM’s are educated with undergraduate and advanced degrees in nursing and midwifery, as well as extensive training in Women’s Health and Obstetrics. All of your routine gynecological care may be scheduled with the certified nurse-midwives, including, but not limited to, annual exams with PAP smear, birth control consults, family planning visits, and postmenopausal support and care.

Our goal is to provide knowledgeable, compassionate care that empowers our patients and allows us to assist them in the childbirth experience that they choose. Our CNM’s provide:

  • A variety of birthing options
  • Comprehensive care from conception to birth
  • Encouragement for fathers to participate in the birthing process
  • Hydrotherapy and aroma therapy during labor
  • Labor support at the hospital with a homelike atmosphere
  • Postpartum care
  • Skin to skin and rooming in for all families
  • Support with breastfeeding

The certified nurse-midwife may discuss possible complications with the obstetricians and co-manage care to ensure that the mother and baby have access to technology and high-risk specialists when needed.

Surprising Facts About Midwives

Fact: More midwifes deliver babies inside a hospital than outside of the hospital. Our Midwives do not perform home births.

Fact: While midwives are proficient in natural means of pain management, women who give birth in our local hospitals also have access to medication and an epidural if it is required or desired.

Fact: A Certified Nurse Midwife has a Bachelor’s degree in nursing and then goes to midwifery school where they receive a Master’s degree and specialized training. This training involves obstetrics and gynecology, well-woman primary care, and newborn care. The difference between an OB/GYN’s education and a CNM’s is that the doctor receives training for surgical and high-risk care and a midwife doesn’t.

Fact: Many insurance plans cover certified nurse-midwife services. Please call our office at 269.429.8010 to see if our office works with your insurance.

Fact: Certified nurse-midwives are licensed to, and, provide routine gynecological care, family planning, and childbirth services. Our midwives, together, have more than 50 years of experience.

Fact: Your certified nurse-midwife will remain with you throughout your care. If a high-risk condition develops during pregnancy, the certified nurse-midwife will work with the doctor for the rest of your care to ensure the safest possible delivery.
